Important announcement: – Johnson & Johnson Vision Care

Dear Customers,
It is with much regret that we have to inform you that Johnson & Johnson Vision Care have announced that due to operational and logistics challenges, against the backdrop of a struggling local marketplace, that they will be withdrawing all products and services from the Sub Saharan, and as such the South African Market as from the 6th of March 2015.

The products that will be affected by this decision are as follows:

  • Acuvue 1-Day Moist
  • Acuvue 1-Day Most for Astigmatism
  • Acuvue 1-Day Trueye
  • Acuvue Oasys 2-Weekly
  • Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism
  • Acuvue Advanced
  • Acuvue 2

Unfortunately Johnson & Johnson vision care, are not the first contact lens supply company to withdraw from our shores, such a move was made by Ciba Vision some seven years ago, only to return under an independent distributors licence some time later. With a market penetration larger than most contact lens suppliers, we at EyeQ are not convinced that this move by Johnson & Johnson ultimately signals the end of their presence here, rather than a reshuffle of how they might be represented within the region.

One thing though, that is for certain, is that this move, will result in a period of supply disruption for all of  their products as listed above, and the time frame of which, we cannot be certain.

The options to overcome this dilemma we see, are then twofold:

Option 1

Those customers who wish to continue with the Acuvue brand in the short term, until we know whether any future supply is possible, should purchase a small supply in advance for a few months or a year.  For any of our customers who wish to do so, EyeQ have arranged a special price on each of the product ranges as follows:

  • Six months’ supply of any J&J product – Available at less 20%
  • One years’ supply of any J&J product – Available at less 25%

Option 2

Those customers who wish to move to alternative products, should arrange an appointment to see their Optometrist at their local branch of EyeQ so we can advise you and allow you to trial an alternative from your usual Johnson & Johnson contact lenses. If you have had your annual eye examination within the past ten months, then EyeQ will gladly provide this visit to you as a courtesy visit, to assist you in this process.

We invite you to contact your respective EyeQ branch and discuss these options with your Eye Care Provider on the following numbers:

  • EyeQ Cavendish Square:     021 683 4546
  • EyeQ Canal Walk:         021 551 3415
  • EyeQ Tyger Valley        021 914 2133
  • EyeQ V&A Waterfront    021 418 1141
  • EyeQ Camps Bay         021 438 1365
  • EyeQ Menlyn (Pretoria)    012 348 2470
  • Vision Optometrists        011 476 3202

We apologise for any inconvenience that this unforeseen decision by Johnson & Johnson may have caused, and as always assure of our best intentions as your chosen Eyecare provider
