Be a Part of the ABSA Cape Epic

It seems the topic of this month is cycling! At the beginning of the month we talked about the Cape Argus on the way, however mid-month proves to be an even bigger cycling challenge with the ABSA Cape Epic 2016 around the corner.

EyeQ will be taking part in the event by providing a full mobile store full of EyeQ glasses and sunglasses that are perfectly suited for this type of event. It is our wish that we can keep you seeing clearly throughout the ride as well as bring a large selection of top quality Oakley’s to the table that range from cool and trendy Lifestyle pieces to Sport specific models.

Cape Epic Route And Registration

Registration for the Cape Epic can be done at the Waterfront on Saturday the 12th of March, then on to UCT for the Prologue on Sunday the 13th. From here the riders travel out to Tulbach and make their way back over the week to Meerendal Estate for the finish on Sunday the 20th.

This year the ABSA Cape Epic route has been revealed online and looking back at the race’s 12 year history, we can see that there will be more single-track than ever before. Of the total of 647 km’s worth of route that the riders will be enjoying, we can expect to see about 110 km’s of single-track. Over the following 8 days of riding, riders will go from Table Mountain to Tulbagh, then on to Wellington, Stellenbosch and finally finish up at Durbanville.

There will be 7 stages to the race, the first and second starting in Tulbach, while stage 3 goes from Tulbach to Wellington. Stage 4 however will be one of the most exhilarating of the entire race with the riders tackling the trails of Welvanpas. Stage 5 is a rugged climb through the hills at Wellington and on to the new race village at Boschendal Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. Stage 6 stays in Stellenbosch taking advantage of the beautiful scenery, while stage 7 will take all the toughest riders to the final end point at Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville.

EyeQ And Oakley Stalls At The Cape Epic

Don’t forget, travelling with the ABSA Cape Epic is the Oakley Support Crew, as well as our mobile store full of stylish and practical eyeglasses. Keep your eyes open for the EyeQ logo and come have a chat with our qualified optometrists for some sage advice on which sunglasses or spectacles will suit you well during such a challenging ride. You will be surprised at the difference the right glasses can do for you.

Otherwise, if you are not taking part in the ride but simply there to witness the awesomeness that are some of South Africa’s most athletic heroes (like I will), you are still welcome to pop by chat with us.

On another note, coming soon will be a monthly EyeQ contest on Facebook that will afford applicant’s the chance to win amazing prizes such as Oakley prescription sunglasses, a free eye test and all sorts of other fun stuff. So keep your eyes on this space and head over to the EyeQ Facebook page and follow us to make sure you don’t miss out!
